Starting tomorrow, workers in powerloom units will go on indefinite strike!
The Federation of Coimbatore-Tirupur Working Powerloom Owners’ Associations voted on Thursday to begin an indefinite strike tomorrow in protest of the State’s recent increase in electricity rates.

At the general body meeting conducted today in the Tirupur district’s Kombakadu Pudur neighbourhood near Palladam, the decision in this regard was made. According to federation secretary P Kumarasamy, the discussion focused on the electricity rate rise that took effect last week and included a 30% increase and a 6% yearly increase as well as its implications on the sector.
In the districts, there are more than 2.5 lakh power looms, and the sector employs close to 5 lakh people.
